Loneliness definitely, we’re all alone just constantly surrounded by others. This wasn’t a new concept for me, but seems like pandemia has brought this realization mainstream. I tried working on a “commercial project” that would be cheerful and it didn’t work out as well as my other “dreadful” pieces. I think people feel honesty. And as an artist, there is a responsibility to speak truth. Fear is a great emotion to exploit, its highly responsive.

On a nice April day, shortly after the second round of Ukraine’s presidential elections, Svitlana K., a music school teacher in Lviv, was approached by a young woman who asked her to answer a few questions for a sociological survey. Svitlana looked through the questionnaire and stumbled at the very first point. It read: “We have just held presidential elections. How do you envision the future status of Galicia (Lviv, Ternopil and Ivano-Frankivsk oblasts)?” The suggested responses included: “It would remain within the unitary Ukraine under the current constitution”, “It would remain within the unitary but substantially decentralized Ukraine”, “It would become a part of the federalized Ukraine”, “It would become an independent state”, and “It would join the neighboring Poland”.

“The Sicilian marionette theater as a source of historical knowledge” describes the specificity of the traditional Sicilian puppet theater (opera dei pupi siciliani) as an interesting source of knowledge, especially about the conquests of Charlemagne - the king of the Franks and Lombards, and from the 800th the Roman emperor. In this local theater, historical facts, myths, fairy tales, ideas and local socio-political problems were mixed with each other. The article shows the origins of opera dei pupi, its specificity, uniqueness, as well as the interest it has caused in Europe and in the world. The article is based on literature (knightly epics), which is the main source of puppet theater scenarios, and on the literature of the subject, e.g. books and articles dedicated to the topic described. The inspiration for the text was a two-time visit to the Antonio Pasqualino International Puppet Museum in Palermo and getting acquainted with the performance of “La battaglia di Orlando e Rinaldo per la bella Angelica”.
